The past decade has witnessed the blooming of biopharmaceutical products and new reatment options such as gene therapy for various human diseases and disorders. However, current biomanufacturing production lacks innovative process analytical technologies (PAT) to speed up market entry. This talk will highlight our recent efforts in advancing cost-effective and point-of-use sensor and assay technologies to provide at-line or in-line cell culture or product quantification. These technologies demonstrate the feasibility of monitoring essential bioprocess parameters in a nearly real-time manner by applying use-driven sensor and assay engineering. These new PATs have the potential to accelerate the development of continuous and modular biomanufacturing and enable same-day product release in the future.
