BIT, BTEC and GES launch interdisciplinary online course

Published May 29, 2024

Three NC State programs — the Biotechnology Program (BIT), the Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (BTEC) and the Genetic Engineering and Society Center (GES) — have joined together to develop a novel online course that is now available.

Biomanufacturing Principles, Processes, and Responsible Innovation was created by a team of expert life science, engineering, and social science educators to provide fundamental knowledge and skills in bioindustrial manufacturing. The self-paced course provides a comprehensive introduction to molecular biotechnology, the principles and processes of industrial biomanufacturing, and their roles in the industrial biotechnology landscape. Course materials, which include audio, video, and animations as well as text-based information, are available on demand to participants, who can select topics of interest and proceed at their own pace.

Course development was funded by BioMADE to support workforce development in the bioindustrial manufacturing sector. BioMADE is a Manufacturing Innovation Institute (MII) sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense and a member of Manufacturing USA®, a national network created to secure U.S. global leadership in advanced manufacturing through large-scale public-private collaboration on technology, supply chain, and education and workforce development.
