Undergraduate Certificate

The undergraduate certificate in biomanufacturing is a great option for students who want the flexibility to explore the biomanufacturing field. The certificate requires an introduction to biomanufacturing course and one course in either upstream or downstream processing. Afterwards, students can choose from a list of courses that complement biomanufacturing, including over 15 unique BTEC courses that offer students a wide range of expertise and experiences related to the industry. Students will work with BTEC’s manager of student programs to develop a cohesive set of courses that suited to their interests and which will help them gain key skills valuable for their intended career goals.

Below are examples of topic areas students may pursue.

  • Cell Line Development
  • Cell and Gene Therapy
  • Upstream Processing
  • Downstream Processing
  • Quality Assurance

The undergraduate certificate is open to degree seeking students who are not pursuing the undergraduate minor in biomanufacturing.

Requirements

Prerequisites

Students interested in adding our certificate should have a background in biology and chemistry.

Course #Course TitleCredit Hours
BIO 183Introductory Biology: Cellular and Molecular Biology4
CH 101 or CH 103Chemistry – A Molecular Science3
CH 221 or CH 225Organic Chemistry I3

Additional prerequisites may be required depending on the student’s area of interest and the courses they would like to take as part of the certificate.

To be eligible to apply for the certificate, students must have:

  • Completed BIO 183 AND CH 101 (or 103) AND CH 221 (or CH 225) or equivalent courses with a C- or better.
