Overview

BTEC’s NIIMBL eXperience for Educators is a two-day workshop designed to empower educators with the knowledge and resources to introduce students to the field of biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

  • Dates: Aug. 3-4, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Cost: Free for selected participants (Includes meals and resources)
  • Location: Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (BTEC), NC State University Centennial Campus, Raleigh, N.C.

Hosted by the Golden LEAF Biomanufacturing Training & Education Center (BTEC) and funded by the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL), this program connects North Carolina classrooms to the industry. Educators will gain a thorough understanding of foundational biomanufacturing topics and understand the various career pathways for students.

Why Apply?

Upon successful completion of the workshop, participants will receive extensive support to help share this knowledge with their students:

  • Professional development and compensation: Receive a stipend of $480 and a Certificate of Participation for 10 contact hours, which if approved by your district will count as 1.0 CEU.
  • Classroom kits: Take home a complete kit of materials for hands-on activities in upstream and downstream biomanufacturing. Supplies are provided for up to 35 students, and associated lesson plans are aligned to North Carolina’s educational standards.
  • Digital resources: Three months of access to “BTEC Shorts,” an online microlearning program with over 40 lessons on biopharma production, as well as additional online biotechnology-specific teaching resources.
  • Industry connection: Participate in an exclusive site visit to Pfizer, a major local biopharmaceutical company. A facility tour and employee career panel are included in this event.
  • Networking: Connect with fellow educators, BTEC faculty and industry professionals.

Workshop Schedule

The program will run from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM Aug. 3-4, 2026.

Day 1: Fundamentals and Hands-On Learning

  • Biomanufacturing Fundamentals: Introduction to biopharmaceutical manufacturing and tour of the BTEC facility.
  • Upstream Processing: Fundamentals lecture followed by a classroom-friendly, standards-aligned activity.
  • Downstream Processing: Fundamentals lecture followed by a classroom-friendly, standards-aligned activity.

Day 2: Industry Immersion and Implementation

  • Industry site visit: Facility tour, career pathways presentation and networking lunch with company employees.
  • Educational resources: Higher education and career pathways overview, lesson planning facilitation.

Application Details

BTEC will select 15 participants for the NIIMBL eXperience for Educators workshop. Applications are open to K-12 STEM educators, such as classroom teachers, guidance counselors, academic or STEM coordinators, STEM or PBL coaches, or those in similar positions. Priority will be given to educators in counties with a biomanufacturing presence.

Funding provided by NIIMBL will cover all workshop costs including the stipend, daily meals, group transportation to the industry site visit, NC State campus two-day parking pass, and take-home materials. Overnight accommodations are not provided, and transportation reimbursement consideration can be indicated in your application.
