Essentials of Spray Drying and Powder Analysis

Spray drying is used in pharmaceutical manufacturing to rapidly remove solvent from drug products to improve stability and enable additional routes of administration. In this one-day hands-on course, you will learn the principles of spray drying and dried powder analysis. Specific concepts such as atomization, heat transfer, material characterization, and critical parameters for process optimization will be presented.

Gain hands-on experience in the operation of laboratory scale spray drying equipment (Buchi B-290) and strategies for process optimization. This course will cover the basic quality attributes of spray dried powder and the assays used to measure them. Lab sessions will include moisture analysis, particle size and morphology measurment, and powder rheology.

This course can be paired with Introduction to Biopharmaceutical Lyophilization for a complimentary overview of additional drying techniques.
